Question
QUESTION: Friends and I are cruising to Bermuda and we are out to have a great time. What do you reccommend for us. We are celebrating with some one year vets home from Iraq and I was thinking about the "don't stop the carnival" excursion?

ANSWER: Hi Victoria,

Bermuda is a tremendous place to vacation.  Linda and I and whoever we may travel with always have a great time.

If you care for relaxing on a beautiful beach do check out the pink sand beaches of the southshore.  I always get off the bus at Warwick Long Bay, carefully walk down the slope to the seashore and stroll the distance to Horseshoe Bay.  It is a most lovely and tranquil excursion. The walk may only be a half mile but will cause you to walk along several pristine and secluded beaches lined with grape tress with a backdrop of volcanic outcrops.  From Horseshoe Bay you can get the bus again.

If you care for more active stuff water sports are available out of Blue Water Sports at Grotto Bay, St. George Harbor (behind the White Horse) and several other places around the island.

Victoria, if you or any of your vets enjoy golfing I would recommend two government run courses.  Port Royal and The St. George Golf Club.

A morning horseback ride is always a diversion.  This ride out of Spicelands Stables on Middle Road (Bus #8)takes you along the beaches too!

If the bunch of you care to rent scooters, either single or double, this will give you a bit more access to come and go and explore the island as you please.  If you do, you can secure a discount by reserving on line at Oleander Cycles.  I think it is a 10% discount.  Exploring Bermuda has always fascinated me.  It is a must on each visit.

Now don't forget the pubs.  Bermuda is under the influence of the queen and their are many pubs.  A pint of ale will quenched your thirst at any of the pubs set on a harbor or elsewhere.  Our favorites are Blackbeard's Hide Out and the White Horse Tavern both in St. George, the Swizzle Inn near the Causeway, the Country Squire in Somerset.  There are famous pubs in the Dockyard and Hamilton as well.

Don't Stop the Carnival has gotten high reviews.  Many years past we jumped on it's predecessor excursion with another name.  It motored to Hawkins Island in the middle of the Great Sound.  Music, a B-B-Q, rum swizzles, some swimming and relaxing.

Happy planning!
Michael

QUESTION: Thanks for all the info. Is the excursion available that you mentioned?
I appriciate all the great guidance. I will print it and send to our travel buddies.
Thanks again, Victoria

Answer
Hello Victoria,

I don't think the excursion I went on with Linda is still available. However, I lean toward the feeling that this Don't Stop the Carnival was born from that.

Here are some details I pulled off a web site:
Cruise to Hawkins Island from Hamilton's Albuoy point, and check out this island bar and restaurant mecca. Tropical music, limbo night, other activities. Boat leaves from Hamilton at 7pm, and returns at 10:30pm.

The web site has lots of info if you are so inclined.  Here it is:

Happy planning!
