Questionwhat type of money is used there
and what language/s are spoken there
AnswerHi Mary,
The Bermuda dollar is the legal currency. It is pegged to the U.S. dollar and is equal in value. The U.S. dollar is accepted too as an equal and widely used. By this I mean you do not have to go to the Bank of Bermuda and exchange your U.S. dollars for Bermudian dollars. It all works. In taxi's, at all the stores, hotels, restaurants and pubs, from the horse drawn carriages to rum swizzels.
The language they would say is Bermudian. bahaha But in fact it is English. They have a dialect that is interesting, but still it is English. They will know every word you or I say.
Did you know that Bermuda is under the influence of the queen? One third Bermudans are from English settlers descent, one third are of West Indian slave descent and One third are Portugese (today Bermuda is totally free and integrated). The three are melded into a culture of there own, Bermudan, quite apart from the lands they descended.
Of course they are tied very closely with mother England as this is where the original descendents first came when Bermuda was claimed for the queen. Historically they have strong ties with the United States and if you were interested, you would find much on history between Bermuda and the U.S. during the U.S. Civil War.
I hope I didn't carry on too long for you.
Happy planning!
Michael
