Questionwe are coming in on Sun 9/3 9-5pm if we rent scooters at the dockyard can we take them across on the ferry to go see the caves and aquarium, if not how long is the ride to go around on land to hamilton? thanks so much
AnswerHi Sar,
The ferries allow scooters only if there is room. That is to say, after all passengers have boarded and there is room.
From the Dockyard to Hamilton will be upwards of an hour. Maybe the ferry would have some space and allow the bikes for your return trip.
From Hamilton the aquarium and cave would be another thirty minutes. To explore, stop at a few beaches, drive up to the aquarium and caves, relax along the way you could easily put aside three to four hours. Even more if you went over to St. George. Of course you would spend time in St. George checking things out, stop for lunch or a snack at a place that caught your eye, the White Horse or the Swizzle Inn. I mean you could use up a day sputtering around.
Linny and I have scootered from Southampton to St. George. That distance can do a number on your butt.
Scootering from the Dockyard to the South shore beaches and riding back along the Great Sound would be a fun trip. Westward bound, back to the Dockyard, just after the area where Middle Road meets with South Shore Road you will see a gas station on your right. On that corner is a tribe road on the right. The first left turn off that tribe road will be the railway trail that runs along the Great Sound a long distance. Mopeds and walking only. No cars. It will take you to Sommerset Bridge and when over the bridge you can find your way back to the railway trail for another great distance ending at Somerset Village.
Enjoy Bermuda Sarah.
Happy planning!
