Question
Hi--could you tell me what to expect for weather the week of April 29, 2007???  Should I pack a few sweaters for evening walks??

Answer
Hi Jan,

My first trip to Bermuda back in the early '80's was the end of April.  To celebrate my husband's birthday with dinner at the Fourway Inn where our table for two was stuck in a hallway and one of his escargot mysteriously disappeared from the dish on the way to our table from the kitchen.  It was the first and only time we've ever left a restaurant before finishing a meal, but we were so disappointed in the service that we simply paid for our drinks and escargot and left.  But that's another story...

The weather on our trip was so bad that even cab drivers commented, "Gee, I've never known it to be this rainy for so long at one time."  But, bad weather to some is good weather to others.  Remember, Bermuda needs rain water for drinking, etc. so it's wise to keep this mind if you experience a shower or two while you're there.  Besides, there's plenty to do rain or shine.  That trip didn't stop us -- we've been back 10 times since then and love it.  Chances are, you will too.

Always, always, always pack light sweaters or light jackets for your travels.  Layering is smart.  Even in the middle of July at night I throw on a sweater to make the trip "home" from a restaurant on the scooter.  It can and will get chilly.  If you're staying and playing on/near the water, even more so.  Take an umbrella and/or rain gear too.  (Water temps at this time of year are a bit too cold for watersports for some people.)

Visit the Bermuda Shorts website where daily weather stats (with photos) have been compiled since 1996.  Click on April 29 and you'll see temps usually in the '70's with sunny days, overcast days and everything in between.  The address is: www.bermudaweather.bm.  You'll also want to visit The Bermuda Weather Service website prior to your trip to get a 5-day forecast.  That address is: www.weather.bm.

You mention taking evening walks and I wonder where you're staying. Stay smart and be aware of your surroundings no matter where you travel in the world.  Leave the fine jewelry at home (there's plenty to buy while you're there!).

Happy Travels!
