Question
Is there anywhere on Bermuda that you can rent a wheelchair for a week or so?

Answer
Hi Lynn,

You can rent a wheelchair for the week from the Bermuda Red Cross.  Call them when you arrive or when get to your final destination at 441.236.2345, extension 1486.

Lynn, I cannot find an up way to say that Bermuda is not particularly handicap friendly.  They are limited.  If you think about it, the population is a mere 60,000ish.  They have nothing similar to the American's with Disabilities Act.  Hamilton has sloping ramps downtown and St. Georg is coming along.  A few ferries can handle a wheelchair too.  Check this out at the ferry launch or in the Transportation Schedule that you'll receive when you arrive.

I can asure you that a person in a wheelchair can have "the best" of times in Bermuda.  Mr. Keith Simmons operates a handicap van for visitors.  He can take you all over the island and of course knows where there is access for the wheelchair.  Mr. Simmons himself is wheelchair bound.  Checkout http://www.access.bm/  I think if you search that site you will find a bit more on Bermuda accessibility for the handicapped and even something about Mr. Simmons service.

Happy planning!
Michael
