Question Hi, i would like to import wines from Portugal and start a distributorship here in Goa-India. I Could start a distributorship or even reatil the wine. Could you please guide me with:
1. Names of wine producers in Portugal.
2. How could i contact them over the internet?
3. What are the import rules with regard to wines and export policies of Portugal.
Answer Tahil,
To start any sort of "distribution" you're going to require some knowledge of the subject. It's not like going over the local market, picking up some bottles, lugging them home, pitching a sign, and being in business. I'll give you some direction here, but you're going to have to do your own legwork - after all, it's going to be your capital that gets tied up until people buy your imported wine.
To the 3rd question, I'm no legal expert. But I doubt there are rules about exporting from Portugal that will prevent you from trading; what you're probably more interested in is getting together with an agent who can strip away the taxes levied on wine for export. In general, rather than shopping for a supplier, to start, find your self a dealer in Portugal who can handle such. As to the rules in India; I'm bemused by your question. I'd assume that you being a local, speaking the language and having an interest in (and a desire to commit your money to) the subject you would be better placed than me to advise.
