Question
I have come across an unopened bottle of Old Wheeler Whiskey with a early 1960s Canada and Indiana tax stamps attached.  I can not find any information on this brand.  Do you have any suggestions as to where I may look?

Answer
HI Charles

I can't document any of this, but here's a guess.  During Prohibition, the trucks that were used to sneak whisky across the border from Canada were called Wheelers...and so were the drivers.  My guess is that this is a private brand that used that terminology after Prohbition to market in the US.  I have looked in a lot of places, and I can't fund much on this one.

Have you checked with the people at antiquebottles.com?  They are pretty good with some of these old bottles.

The liquor inside won't have a lot of value--it's the bottle that might be of interest to collectors.
