Question
Hello, i have received this very old bottle of hennessy and i have no clue if its worth anything. So i dont know if I should crck it open or keep it. I have 2 pictures I have attached. On the bottle it has this arm & axe and it says " Cuvee Superieure" also it reads Le, Cognac Hennessy Cuvee Superieure Fine CHampagne est issu du mariage des plus fines eaux-de-vie provenant exclusivement des deux premiers crus de cognac: Grande et Petite Champagne. The bottle has some stuff engraved into the bottom " JA Hennessy & Co, Cognac France and it also has a something that looks like a 0'7 in the middle of the bottom of the bottle. I was told this bottle is about 40 years old. Any information on this bottle would be helpful, thank you for your time......
AnswerHi Ham
Distilled spirits like this really only develop and improve with age in the barrel, not the bottle. They are so high in alcohol that once they are bottled they don't change much, for better or worse, the way wines do. That means they don't change much in value, either.
With that in mind, your bottle is probably worth more or less what a current bottling of the same product is: about $50-75. Some of the older bottles have a collectible character--but these are usually scotch or bourbon bottles, not cognacs.
Sorry that I don't have more exciting news.
