Question

DSC01336.JPG
I am in possession of the attached bottle of unopened John Dewar & Sons Scotch Whiskey and I am wondering if you would be so kind as to provide me with an estimated age/vintage of this scotch and what range of value could be assigned to an unopened bottle of this vintage?  Pictures are attached. On the back of the label are the numbers 43-142.  Thank you for your assistance. Dave

Answer
Hi Dave

Distillee spirits like this are so high in alcohol that they donīt change much over time, for better or for worse.  So the good news is that this bottle should be fine to drink.  The bad news is that is wonīt have appreciated in value the way some fine wines do.  I would estimate this bottle to be worth something like $25 or so on the auction market.

But that doesnīt mean that the glass bottle itself wonīt be of interest to bottle collectors.  Thatīs an area where I am not an expert, but if you check with the guys at antiquebottles.com, they can give you some advice on that--they are very helpful, and often have illustrations of collectible bottles on the site.

Sorry I canīt give you more exciting news
