Question

Old Cocktail Bottle
I am from Australia. I have been given an old 750 ml bottle of McWilliams Tropical Fruit cocktail. The bottle is full and sealed. The front label indicates that it's made in Australia-McWilliams Wines Pty Ltd Sydney. There is a number D3177 mentioned. It looks like its from the 1960's due to the writing & pictures on the rear label. Rear label reads McWilliams Wvj6ine Cocktail
serve ice cold

Short Drinks
Fill small glass with Cocktail and add Maraschino Cherry

Long Drinks
1 1/2 ozs Cocktail, slice of lemon and crushed ice. Fill glass with Ginger Ale or lemonade.

My question is would this be an alcoholic beverage that is still able to be consumed perhaps containing scotch?
Also any idea how old it is and whether it's worth anything? If so where can I go to sell it?
Thanks.

Answer
HI  George

There are two parts of this cocktail--the distilled spirits and the tropical fruit.  The spirits are fine, as they won't change much  with age.  But the fruit is probably a bit tired now, and will have lost some of this aromatics.  This isn't a collectible in any sense.  The best advice I can offer is to open it up and drink it--if it doesn't taste to tired or faded.

Sorry I can't give you more exciting news.
