Question

Vintage Liquor
Hello, Paul:

My parents purchased a home in the Northeast section of Philadelphia, PA.  In their garage were 3 bottles of what seem to be vintage liquor.  There's a bottle of London Dry Dixie Belle Distilled Gin (90 proof).  The IRS Tax paid seal has the follow series of #'s on it (516656622).  There's a bottle of Hiram Walker Creme de Menthe Green.  The IRS Tax Paid seal on this read 273125228.  Lastly, there's a bottle of Christian Brothers California Cream Sherry.  I don't think this last bottle is of any significance, however, I figured I'd mention it.

Is there any info you can give me mainly about the gin and creme de menthe?  Any way of knowing their ages and current value?  Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time,
Jeanne T.

Answer
Hi Jeanne

These are pretty common bottles.  They may be old, but distilled spirits like the Gin don't improve with age in the bottle. These won't have any additional value--I'd estimate them at something like $10 each. IF they were mine, I would just go ahead and drink them.

The Cream Sherry is probably sweet but a bit tired, the Gin and Creme de Menthe are probably just about the way they were when they went into the bottle.

Sorry that I can't give you more exciting news
