Beverages/Value of 1964 Chivas Regal
Expert: Paul Wagner - 5/16/2010
QuestionQUESTION: I have a case of 1964 Chivas Regal, aged 12 years originally. What is the value of a bottle?
ANSWER: Hi Celeste
As you may have gathered from my answers to some similar questions, this bottle won't have appreciated in value much. In distilled spirit products like this, the alcohol level is so high that they dont' change much over time, for better or for worse. So it's fine to drink, but it won't have appreciated in value the way some fine wines do.
It's probably worth about $65 or so. It's illegal for private individuals to sell alcoholic beverages in the USA, so you'd have to go through a local wine and spirits retailer. In all honesty, I think it would make a better gift for someone...
Sorry that I can give you more exciting news.

QUESTION: Thank you for your response. I asked not for the alcohol content but for the bottle which is not longer manufactured by Chivas. I should have made that clear. I thought, perhaps the older bottle had some value.
AnswerHI Celeste
Sorry about the misunderstanding--thanks for making a second effort!
I can't tell you about the bottle itself, just the liquid inside. BUt I can tell you whom to contact. Go to antiquebottles.com and ask them about it. They are very nice folks, and have a big website that just specializes in collectible bottles. And they should know the answer!
