Question
Hi Paul I,ve just found a bottle of Partners port (finest rich ruby) Sandeman Numbered 25b-671485 is this of any value & could you drink it?

Answer
Hi Rachel

Ruby ports are made to drink, not age, so this one won't have appreciated in value (or improved much in quality) over the years.  Your best bet is to open it up and drink it---and have a backup bottle in hand, in case this one is over the hill.

The clue here is that your port was bottled with a bar-top--those corks that are half plastic top, half wine cork.  They don't make a very good seal, and they don't last more than a year or two.  So when you get a bottle with this kind of top, there is no point in aging it further.  Just open it up and drink it.

Sorry I can't give you better news.
