Question
I have a bottle of 1961 j and b rare scotch which my step dad brought back from france while in the military all labels and seals are in tact and near mint condition. the seal number is 270058138 and it is a 4/5 quart bottle and is 86 proof. I am curious as to what this bottle full would appraise at today

Answer
Hi Wayne

The Scotch in this bottle is worth about what a current bottling of J&B is worth.  Distilled spirits like Scotch and Gin do not change much over time---the alcohol level is too high.  So the good news is that this one is perfectly good to drink.  The bad news is that it hasn't appreciated in value the way some fine wines do.

You might check with the guys at antiquebottles.com.   The bottle itself may be of more interest to bottle collectors than the Scotch is to Scotch connoisseurs!

Hope that helps
