QuestionQUESTION: Just wondering what you would think a 1977 bottle of Dom perion is worth (I am so good I don't even know how to spell it) The bottle is at my brother's so I haven't got it in my hand to correct my spelling. It was bought for my birth and before I open to celebrate, I was wondering what it may be worth
ANSWER: HI Rebecca
This is a great wine, but it is getting pretty old. If it was stored in perfect conditions (dark, cool, and quiet) since its purchase, then it is probably still in pretty good shape. If it's been in a closet or a cabinet in the kitchen, then probably not.
In perfect condition, this bottle might sell for $250 or more. But if the storage conditions are suspect, it could be a lot less.
My suggestion? Pick a special occasion and open it up with family or friends. Just make sure it is well chilled, and that you have a back-up bottle, just in case!
Hope that helps

QUESTION: Oh thank you so much for your prompt reply.
My brother and I just took photos of the bottle, it is actually a vintage 1978 bottle in really good condition (well I don't know what you classify as good condition really) and it has been stored in dark cool conditions for as long as I know. My dad bought it when I was born, and has had a wine cellar that it was stored in for all this time. The last year it has been in a well packed box in a cool indoor storage shed in Melbourne with airconditioning so hopefully it is still in good condition. What do you think now? I have photos if you want to see the bottle and its condition.
Thanks
Bec
AnswerHi Rebeccas
I am a little relieved, for a couple of reasons. I didn't think that Dom Perignon made a 1977, because that was a rainy vintage. I'd say that you have a lovely bottle of wine that is worth about $250 at an auction.
BUt I'd still drink it with some nice friends. Chill it for an hour in the fridge, and serve it with something that isn't too flavorful to get in the way of the wine.
