Question
I have an old bottle of Courvoisier, probably between the 30's and 50's, but I was wondering how I can tell how old it is and where it came from?

Answer
Hi Bekah:

The packaging should help tell you how old it is--but I would have to see a photo, and then match it with some photos from Courvoisier.

You might do just as well to check one of the websites for bottle collectors.  They usually have a lot of images, and information about them.  If you can find a match...then you will have your answer.

As for value...

Because of the high level of alcohol in Cognac and other spirits, they don't improve with age in the bottle the way fine wines do.  SO the resale value of such bottles is usually a bit lower than you would expect.  These often sell for just a few dollars more than the current bottles.  If it is from the 1950's, I would estimate yours at about $50-75.
