I tried to make some home made egg nog from a couple of different books.  However, it all ways asked for heavy cream.  Is that the same as whipping cream you get in the dairy section?  I could not find any heavy cream.  When I asked around everyone said it is the same but my egg nog did not turn out right and I just wondered if that was why.

Dear James:

Yes, whipping cream is the same as heavy cream, and is a very common ingredient in egg nog.  I don't think that is the problem.  But whipped cream is something different--don't make that substitution!

How did your egg nog differ from your expectiations?
