Question
Paul:

I wrote you the other day regarding my bad experience with Rum & Coke. You suggested White Port with soda, Sweet (red) Vermouth and Vodka with OJ. Did you recieve my follow up question about purchasing these drinks myself at a liquor store and mixing my own drinks? I prefer to try to relax at home before entering into social situations. Is there any other drink I can purchase and mix myself that you can recommend? Thanks.

Answer
Dear Tony:

Sorry, I did answer this one again, but there must have been a problem with the software.  The White POrt and soda should be mixed about 50/50, and both items can be purchased in a liquor store.  I prefer Sandeman's white port for this, but you will have to match your own taste. Serve over ice.

The Sweet Vermouth is available in any liquor store--this is a classic drink of high-end French cuisine, and you will see all sorts of people playing sophisticates in the 1950's drinking this in the movies.  Very cool stuff. Both sweet and slightly bitter/minerally. Serve over ice.

Finally, the Vodka and Orange juice is a real classic.  1-2 ounces of Vodka, fill the 6 ounce glass with OJ, and you are set.

Finally--I want to reiterate my previous concerns.  Eat something first, so that you have something in your stomach to absorb the alcohol.  And I do worry about you drinking on your own--I hope you are not just "getting a head start" on the rest of the group.  This is one of the classic first signs of alcoholism!
