On or about 1978 an ad campaign to promote a 2 liter bottle of soda was released.  The word "Boss" was used to describe the big bottle. Cardoard cut-out banners were placed in supermarkets or stores next to the 2 liter bottle shelves, with the word "Boss" across it, TV commercials, newspaper ads, etc.  My family refer to a "boss" when we talk about a 2 liter bottle.  For some reason we are looked at strange when we talk about it.  Noone seems to know or remember what we are talking about.

....I didn't mention in my answer above that the 2 liter bottle "the boss" ad campaign took place in New York City during my teenage years in the late 70's. I must mention that the 2 liter bottle in Puerto Rico is referred to as the "padrino" which in english it means godfather, which can also be called "the boss".

I, too, remember the large 2 liter bottles being called "The Boss" back in the 70's and I have yet to find anyone else who remembers. That term, as I recall, didn't last a really long time until it was being called a 2-Liter. I live in Ohio.
