Question
does a bottle of wine cool quicker standing up or lying down?

Answer
Hi Owen:

Doesn't really matter.  It cools quickest in a bucket filled with ice and water.  The water makes a good connection to transfer the cold of the ice into the glass.

You age wine on its side to keep the cork moist...but that is something you do over years.  Chilling a bottle should only take a few minutes, so the orientation of the bottle doesn't matter.
