Question
Many years ago I was in southern California and there was a winery called Brookside wines. I know they also had an outlet around Chicago Ill. but I was interested if they are still around and how I could get some of their wines. I loved their Sangria and their white Sangria wines. Also do you know of some other comparable brand if they are out of business?

Answer
Dear Gary:

That does go back a few years! The Brookside winery has been out of business for some time...the old building is now used as a youth center, I believe.  But you don't need the winery for Sangria.  Here is a simple recipe so that you can make your own:

1 large Bottle of Dry Red or White Wine, 1 Tbs. Sugar, 1 Orange, Lemon & Lime, 1 Qt. Club Soda (Optional additions are; 1 oz. Brandy, 1 oz. Triple Sec, Pineapple slices or Maraschino cherries)

Thinly slice fruits, Combine with Wine & sugar & options, Refrigerate overnight. Mix with Club Soda just before serving.  You can sweeten with more sugar to taste.
