Beverly Hills 90210/Dylan/Baby Erin

Question
QUESTION: Hi Crystal! I was wondering if you could tell me what Dylan says to Kelly after she puts baby Erin is his arms in the episode "Sex, Lies and Volleyball" and also what is it that Dylan is saying to Erin after Kelly leaves the room. I couldn't hear him over Erin's cries. I love this scene, Dylan was so sweet and looked so cute holding Erin. Your help is greatly appreciated.

ANSWER: Hello Marissa,

This is what I caught by watching those scenes using closed captioning...

When Kelly hands him Erin: Uhhh, Kel, I don't know anything about babies.

After Kelly leaves the room (and he's trying to get Erin to stop crying and succeeds by talking to her): Hey, hey, hey. Come here. What a sweet girl. It's okay, it's okay. [Oh yes, what a sweet girl. You got a nice setup here, you know that? Can you tell? Yeah, you got a mom and a dad.] You got a brother, David, a sister, Kelly. You like that? Let me tell you something, though, you take it from me, don't let them get too close. You'll just get burned. Rule number one, the only person you can trust in this world is yourself.

Note: comments in the [ ] were heard from the baby monitor.

Hope this clears it up for you.

Take care,
Crystal

QUESTION: While we're on the topic. When Dylan says "don't let them get too close, you'll just get burned." do you think he was referring to the Walsh family drama? I mean, in "Wedding Bell Blues" he tells Jake and Brenda that he shouldn't have gotten so close so do you think he was still upset about how Jim was treating him? Just a question I've always thought about while watching this scene with baby Erin.

Answer
Strictly my personal point of view here:

I think Dylan is referring to every time he's let his guard down with another person and gotten close to them, be it the Walsh family or his own parents. Throughout his life, most of the time when Dylan put his trust in someone and got close to them, he ended up hurt (burned). The Walsh family drama seemed like it was the "straw that broke the camel's back".

My guess is that Dylan never fully got over the way Jim was treating him, even after he and Brenda broke up and he was dating Kelly. It's understandable though, Dylan saw Jim as a father figure and Jim rejected him.

Take care,
Crystal

Expertise

I have seen all 10 seasons of 90210 and have every episode on tape to locate answers. My expertise is on the first 6 seasons and the characters Brenda and Dylan, but I will attempt to answer any question pertaining to the show. Please no scene/dialogue questions because they are very time-consuming and frustrating. However, I will be happy to clarify misunderstood dialogue due to whispering and such if I'm able to. I will attempt to answer any song question for the original airdates and syndication. NO DVD SONG QUESTIONS PLEASE. Please see my "Life Experience" in my profile for song question updates, it may pertain to your question.

Experience

I have every single episode on tape to find the answers. I watched and taped the show religiously. (All requests for copies of my videotapes/episodes will be declined.)
Update: The song used in "Crunch Time" during David's meth addiction is "Living In A Fantasy" by The Rainbow Band. Many thanks to the fellow 90210 Fan that contacted me with the info when they tracked it down. Also, the song used in "One Wedding and a Funeral" that Dylan & Toni dance to is "Nobody Knows Me" by Lyle Lovett. Same song is used during the scene where Dylan is crying while holding the wedding dress and then kitten. David & Donna's wedding song is "Spend My Life With You" by Eric Benet & Tamia. Same song was Steve & Janet's wedding song.
