Beverly Hills 90210/Dylan in Seasons 9 and 10

Question
Hi Mel.  I have a two part question.  When Dylan returns, does he ever mention his sister Erica?  I remember in Season 8, Brandon and Kelly sent Erica to live with Dylan in London, so I'm curious if that is ever explained.  Also, can you tell me the dialogue that takes place between Dylan and Kelly when he reveals he showed up to her attempted wedding to Brandon?  And what is Kelly's reaction/reply?  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Julie,

Amazingly, no, Dylan doesn't talk about his sister when he returns to Beverly Hills, not even to their mutual father, Jack, whom he had thought to be deceased until reappearing in S10.

Dylan reveals to Kelly that he showed up at her and Brandon's wedding in the S10 episode, "Baby You Can Drive My Car" (10.08).  While they both stare out at newlyweds Janet and Steve, Kelly says, "She's a beautiful bride, isn't she?"  "Doesn't hold a candle to you on your wedding day", Dylan replies before walking away.

Later in the episode, Kelly comes by his hotel room at the Beverly Royale Hotel.  Here is the scene.

K: I was on my way to Matt's and I realized - there were no pictures taken of me in my wedding gown.
D: Yeah, well, uh ... I never said I saw any pictures.
K: Yeah, you said you saw me in my wedding gown, but you weren't there.
D: You wore a, uh, low-cut white thing.  It was puffy.
K: (smirking) That pretty much describes pretty much every bride.
D: (sighs) Okay ... your hair was up.  It was curly.  (smiling) I always thought you should have left it down.
K: I can't believe you were there.
D: I flew in from Europe at the last minute.  (Kelly stares at him sentimentally) I was coming up the path in the back of the church and I saw you.
K: (annoyed) You left without saying 'hello' to me or any of your friends?
D: Well, then it hit me.  I realized that you were gonna marry someone else.  ... I didn't want to see that.  (Kelly looks down)  Weren't you on your way to Matt's?  (she begins to walk out)  Maybe I shouldn't have brought that up, huh?
K: (stopping at door, low)  Probably not.

Kelly exits and we see her take a pause on the other side of the door, like she's taking in the impact of what she just found out.  End credits.

The episode that follows doesn't address this revelation at all, as Dylan and Kelly are too involved in separate plotlines (Jackie/Mel's divorce and injustice at a community center).  The next time they're seen together is at the hospital, where everyone is concerned about the health of Steve's new baby girl, so the subject is not brought up.  While stuffing Thanksgiving turkeys together ("What's In A Name?", 10.10), Kelly mentions that David and Gina hooked up at Steve and Janet's wedding and it was the same night Dylan admitted to flying in from Europe and walking out on her wedding.  We actually don't get to hear Dylan's full response because he then gives her the cell phone she asked for to call Matt, the scene ending there.  However, it's revealed that she never called him and they walk back to the beach apartment together, Kelly dropping her keys she's so nervous to have Matt see them together.  For all practical purposes, it's as if the topic was dropped, but it's made clear that she's both touched by the revelation and possibly a bit peeved.

Thanks for the question!

All the best,

Mel

Can Dylan solve quadratic equations? What makes up a "mega-burger"? If an answer exists, I probably know it. Whether your question is general, begging the context of all 10 seasons, or completely inane, feel free to drop me a line either way. I will provide episode reference numbers for each response and plan to have some fun with this. Trivia quizzes often need correction, and publications will get their plotlines/characters/relationships mixed up too. I accept dialogue/scene requests, but please limit your inquiry to 1-2 per question. I only know music from the original broadcasts/reruns, not the DVDs. Been a fan since 1990 and didn't miss a beat.

Experience

Well, I began watching "Beverly Hills, 90210" at the tender age of 9 and a half, during its original run. By 11, I was a huge fan; 13, obsessed; 14, growing bitter. I don't like S6 - S10 as much as Seasons 1 - 5. But, technically, I still watch all of them in some way. Do this for 20 years and you'll remember the darndest things.

Education/Credentials
I'd like to say I've earned a "degree" on the life and times of the original eight, with specific concentration on Seasons 1 thru 5, any Jack McKay drama, Dylan/Kelly together or apart, and the guest stars of 1992-1994. Season 4, I think, was the best and strikingly different from any other. My only weakness might be later-season 'stand-in' characters like Matt and Noah, and the ever-changing ownerships of The AfterDark.
