Beverly Hills 90210/Freeway

Question
Hello Mel!
My husband and I are fans of the show, and started watching it all over. However, in the version we have been watching there seem to be scenes missing!! For example, I remember that once Brenda, Kelly and Dylan (I'm not sure if there also was Donna) were driving and Brenda, as a new driver, accidentally entered the freeway. The girls got scared, asked Dylan to help them and he told them to remain on the right lane. They exit the first possible chance and all went well.

Do you remember in which episode this happened? We could not find this scene even though we watched the first 5 seasons all over.

Some details may be wrong, I've seen this on TV something like 10-15 years ago and never again since then..

thanks a lot!! :-)
Have a nice day!
Lara

Answer
Hi Lara,

Well, if this scene aired, it would surely have been in the Season 2 episode, "Leading From the Heart" (2x11), or "A Competitive Edge" (2x20).  There are several scenes on a similar theme in each, as well as "One On One" (1x05), such as Brenda almost having a collision when she sees Henry Winkler during her driving test, Dylan and Brandon watching as Brenda parallel parks and passes her driving test, Kelly/Brandon/Cousin Bobby and Brenda driving off (quite reluctantly/comedically) in a final scene, David/Donna and Brenda driving and bumping into the back of a woman's car, and Brenda driving off in Brandon's mustang as Dylan/Kelly/Brandon/Steve watch from outside the Peach Pit, also in a final scene.  I've checked the broadcast recordings against the DVDs for these episodes and none of the above scenes are missing.  But it's definitely true that the DVDs have cut various scenes from the show.

My guess is you've either blended the memory of two or more of these scenes or there really was an extra one like you describe, cause I can easily imagine it (vaguely) in my mind now too, but don't know if we're both also being influenced by the freeway scene in the movie "Clueless" with Cher, Dionne, and Murray, lol.  By the end of 2x20, the show was pretty much done with teasing Brenda about her driving (the woman involved in the accident revealed to be a con artist), so no need to wonder beyond that.  Also, if this phantom scene exists, it would have been cut from syndicated reruns as far back as around 1997, only appearing on the WB network and/or the original broadcast on FOX beforehand.

Thanks for the question!

All the best,

Mel

Can Dylan solve quadratic equations? What makes up a "mega-burger"? If an answer exists, I probably know it. Whether your question is general, begging the context of all 10 seasons, or completely inane, feel free to drop me a line either way. I will provide episode reference numbers for each response and plan to have some fun with this. Trivia quizzes often need correction, and publications will get their plotlines/characters/relationships mixed up too. I accept dialogue/scene requests, but please limit your inquiry to 1-2 per question. I only know music from the original broadcasts/reruns, not the DVDs. Been a fan since 1990 and didn't miss a beat.

Experience

Well, I began watching "Beverly Hills, 90210" at the tender age of 9 and a half, during its original run. By 11, I was a huge fan; 13, obsessed; 14, growing bitter. I don't like S6 - S10 as much as Seasons 1 - 5. But, technically, I still watch all of them in some way. Do this for 20 years and you'll remember the darndest things.

Education/Credentials
I'd like to say I've earned a "degree" on the life and times of the original eight, with specific concentration on Seasons 1 thru 5, any Jack McKay drama, Dylan/Kelly together or apart, and the guest stars of 1992-1994. Season 4, I think, was the best and strikingly different from any other. My only weakness might be later-season 'stand-in' characters like Matt and Noah, and the ever-changing ownerships of The AfterDark.
