Beverly Hills 90210/When Brenda & Dylan met

Question
I was just wondering, (becuase its been years since i saw my last full 90210 episode) when exactly did they meet? I have seen clips of brenda and dylan talking and what looks like their first meeting together when dylan is fixing some car. But there is this one scene where he asks brenda if she is brandon's sister. I'm confusing myself right now- do you by any chance have that very episode? or the episode where they get a hotel room on the night of the dance? Much thanks!

Answer
Hello Jane,

My hunch is that Brenda & Dylan's actual first meeting occurred OFF-CAMERA between the episodes 1.02 and 1.04. I'll explain why I see it this way from details from the episodes:

- Brandon first meets and befriends Dylan in the October 11, 1990 episode "The Green Room" (#1.02). At the end of one of their conversations, Brandon says that he has to go find his sister. This is when Dylan learns Brandon has a sister. In a conversation with Brandon at home, Brenda informs him that she's heard rumors that Dylan is "trouble". No indication that she knew which guy he was though.

- In the October 18, 1990 episode "Every Dream Has Its Price (Tag)" (#1.03) Dylan helps Brandon get a job at the Peach Pit. Their friendship is now in full swing, I could see Dylan coming to the Walsh house to visit and meeting Brenda then.

- When Brandon's Minnesota girlfriend Sheryl shows up in Beverly Hills in the October 25, 1990 episode "The First Time" (#1.04), Brenda had a babysitting job that Brandon had to drop her off at before he joined Sheryl & Dylan for a night out on the town. One scene shows all 4 of them standing outside the Walsh house where Sheryl wants to ride in Dylan's Porsche and Brenda doesn't want to be late for her job. However, Brenda & Dylan did not talk to each other. They both came across like they knew who the other was though.

- In the November 15, 1990 episode "Higher Education" (#1.06), at school Kelly tells Brenda how cute Dylan is, Brenda again states she's heard he's trouble, Kelly says Dylan can trouble her anytime and they both go over and talk to Dylan at his locker. Kelly states that she & Brenda were just talking whether guys like girls with long or short hair and wants to know what Dylan thinks. Dylan replies that he personally likes blondes while obviously more interested in Brenda. He then states "so, you're Brandon's sister" while staring at her and giving her a smile. Kelly picks up on Dylan's interest in Brenda and dejectedly says "yeah, she's Brandon's sister". Dylan tells the girls goodbye and heads off. Kelly then states that Dylan is weird and Brenda with a smile on her face agrees. Taking Dylan at his word, the girls decide to attempt to dye Brenda's hair blonde with bad results. Dylan sees Brenda out jogging with the bad hair and offers to help her fix it. They were flirting during the conversation and she slipped and said she liked his butt. Dylan also clarifies that he likes blondes, brunettes, and girls in tank tops (which Brenda was wearing at the time). When Brenda gets back home she refers to him as her friend Dylan. (This episode is probably considered by many to be when Brenda & Dylan first met since it's the first time they definitely talk to each other.)

- In the January 3, 1991 episode "Isn't It Romantic?" (#1.10), in reference to a comment that Brenda says that Brandon always says, Dylan rolls out from under Brandon's car and states that is what he always said. Brenda states that she didn't see him there, Dylan replies that he saw her and eyes her up and down. During their brief conversation before Brenda has a phone call, they flirt a little. After finishing her call, Brenda calls Kelly and while they talk, Brenda watches Dylan from the upstairs window. Dylan seems to sense that he's being watched and looks up at the window just as Brenda walks away from it. Later, Brenda mistakenly believes that Brandon is in the shower when it's Dylan. They again flirt and he invites her to come with him & Brandon that night. Brenda is supposed to join them again the following weekend, but Brandon gets sick so they go out alone. During this outing, they have their first kiss.

You should know how it goes from there. If you want more details though, feel free to ask. The episode where Dylan gets them a hotel room is called "Spring Dance".

Yes, I have the complete series on tape. I do not have a way of making copies though.

Thanks for your question,

Expertise

I have seen all 10 seasons of 90210 and have every episode on tape to locate answers. My expertise is on the first 6 seasons and the characters Brenda and Dylan, but I will attempt to answer any question pertaining to the show. Please no scene/dialogue questions because they are very time-consuming and frustrating. However, I will be happy to clarify misunderstood dialogue due to whispering and such if I'm able to. I will attempt to answer any song question for the original airdates and syndication. NO DVD SONG QUESTIONS PLEASE. Please see my "Life Experience" in my profile for song question updates, it may pertain to your question.

Experience

I have every single episode on tape to find the answers. I watched and taped the show religiously. (All requests for copies of my videotapes/episodes will be declined.)
Update: The song used in "Crunch Time" during David's meth addiction is "Living In A Fantasy" by The Rainbow Band. Many thanks to the fellow 90210 Fan that contacted me with the info when they tracked it down. Also, the song used in "One Wedding and a Funeral" that Dylan & Toni dance to is "Nobody Knows Me" by Lyle Lovett. Same song is used during the scene where Dylan is crying while holding the wedding dress and then kitten. David & Donna's wedding song is "Spend My Life With You" by Eric Benet & Tamia. Same song was Steve & Janet's wedding song.
