Question
Hi Crystal,

Thank you soo much for the well written recap of Brenda and Dylan scenes. If its not too much trouble can you again describe the scenes between brenda and dylan in the episode where dylan helps brenda with her poetry homework and her parents walk in on them.  I heard about dyland and brenda arguing about a certain poetry.
Thanks you for taking the time

Liz

Answer
Hello Liz,

Is this what you are asking about (rather long):

Everything takes place in the episode “Take Back The Night”.

Brenda and Dylan have just left their “Romantic Poetry” class. Brenda asks why she had taken that class because she is doomed. Dylan tells her that the upcoming exam is only half her grade and not to worry about it. Brenda says that the teacher could have been speaking Martian for all she knew. She then asks what “biographia literaria” means. Dylan uses a fake accent and says it's a condition that develops when you spend the entire semester running around with a Stuart Carson. She states that she just never connected with the romantic poetry stuff. Dylan disagrees by saying obviously she does because she ran off to Las Vegas to almost elope with a guy she knew for 5 minutes. She states that she knew him for 5 weeks. Dylan replies “whatever.” Brenda claims that the class is really nothing but words to her. Dylan wants to know what she's saying and asks if that is her way of asking him to help her study for the exam. Brenda replies with is that his way of offering to? Dylan tells her that he asked her first. Brenda gives him a big smile and says “yes.”

Since he has agreed to help her, Dylan joins her family for dinner that night. Jim states that it feels like old times. Dylan agrees that it does. However, then Brenda was helping him with his homework, not vice versa. Brenda says that means Dylan owes her. Brandon arrives and says hello to everyone. Cindy remarks that Brandon is dressed nice. Brandon is having dinner with one of his professors that night and not looking forward to it. Jim says that in his college days, dinner with the professor was a special perk. Dylan says it still is. Brandon states that any of them are welcome to go in his place. Brenda says that she would love to meet the professor's wife and that she had given a great lecture at one of the “Take Back The Night” seminars earlier that day. She then asks if Brandon or Dylan were going to go to the date rape seminar the next day. Dylan states that he'll pass on being labeled a potential rapist by a woman with a crewcut. Cindy asks if there is a little of male backlash here. Dylan says he doesn't know what she's talking about, until the year before, guys were not even allowed at the seminar. Brandon tells Dylan to consider going, lots of babes there. Brenda and Cindy are appalled and both say Brandon's name in a warning way. Amused with their reaction, Brandon apologizes while smirking and says goodnight before leaving.

In class, the teacher finishes reading a poem and says that the text is obviously a meditation on desire. Brenda comments, “yeah, his desire.” This leads the teacher to comment about how she's finally joining them after half the semester. Brenda states that she read the text last night and it was rather one-sided to her. She states the woman keeps saying no and the man won't take no for an answer. She finishes with that it sounds like date rape to her. Dylan vocalizes “that is ridiculous”. The teacher points out to the class, the female thinks it's date rape, the guy says it's not. Dylan says that it's far from it. He points out the girl in the poem obviously knows how difficult it is to open your heart to another human being and she's feeling skittish. He goes on to say that how do you know that one day your girlfriend tells you that she loves you, then the next day she's running around with a geek from the KEG house fraternity. The teacher tells Dylan that he thinks he may be reading too much into the text. Brenda raises her eyebrows and gives Dylan a closed-mouth smile.

The next class, outside the doorway, Brenda asks Dylan is he has any last minute tips for the exam. Dylan states she seems to have her own ideas. Brenda tells him that he was right about the poem. She admits it's called “Romantic Poetry” for a reason. Dylan says he doesn't know, maybe it's all a bad joke. Maybe a bad joke like Kelly and John Sears. Brenda says “Kelly said she called it quits.” Dylan says he doesn't think John will give up that easily. Brenda says she can't believe she's about to encourage Dylan to give Kelly a second chance, but if that is what he wants, not to let stupid stuff stand in his way. Dylan wants to know about the stupid stuff: like maybe if John apologizes and Kelly goes out with him again? He states he thinks that would be pretty stupid. Brenda reminds him about what he said: that's the risk we take. He admits that he doesn't know if it's worth it. Brenda says that maybe it's different, but even after he went off with Kelly, she would have taken him back in a second. No questions asked either. She tells him that she bets Kelly will be at the “Take Back The Night” rally that night. Their teacher appears in the doorway and states it appears that they have come to agreement over the poem. When he asks what they think the poem is about, Brenda replies “I'd say it's personal.”

Later that night, Brenda tells Dylan she's glad he came to the rally after all. He states “when push comes to shove, I love a parade.” They both notice John Sears and other KEG guys. Dylan tells Brenda that he still wants to deck that guy. Brenda tells him that it's possible after the rally, he may have to wait in line to do that. Later, Dylan ends up smashing a pie in John Sears face when he had again approached Kelly claiming to want to make peace with her. John tells Dylan to watch out and that he's dead. Kelly approaches Dylan and tells him he's crazy and thank you for what he did. Dylan gives Kelly a quick kiss on the lips and says, “you're welcome.”

I have seen all 10 seasons of 90210 and have every episode on tape to locate answers. My expertise is on the first 6 seasons and the characters Brenda and Dylan, but I will attempt to answer any question pertaining to the show. Please no scene/dialogue questions because they are very time-consuming and frustrating. However, I will be happy to clarify misunderstood dialogue due to whispering and such if I'm able to. I will attempt to answer any song question for the original airdates and syndication. NO DVD SONG QUESTIONS PLEASE. Please see my "Life Experience" in my profile for song question updates, it may pertain to your question.

Experience

I have every single episode on tape to find the answers. I watched and taped the show religiously. (All requests for copies of my videotapes/episodes will be declined.)
Update: The song used in "Crunch Time" during David's meth addiction is "Living In A Fantasy" by The Rainbow Band. Many thanks to the fellow 90210 Fan that contacted me with the info when they tracked it down. Also, the song used in "One Wedding and a Funeral" that Dylan & Toni dance to is "Nobody Knows Me" by Lyle Lovett. Same song is used during the scene where Dylan is crying while holding the wedding dress and then kitten. David & Donna's wedding song is "Spend My Life With You" by Eric Benet & Tamia. Same song was Steve & Janet's wedding song.
