Question
Hi Mel,

I was wondering if you know of any way that I can get all 10 seasons on DVD as soon as possible. I just can't wait until they release each one!! Thanks for yout help

Answer
Hi Shirley,

Well, I've noticed that ever since the official release of Season 1 on DVD, there are far fewer options for fans wanting a copy of the whole series.  Only a few years ago, I took two routes: contacting someone in a forum (he no longer offers the DVDs) and purchasing bootlegs from eBay.  Luckily, I didn't get ripped off either time.

Nowadays, I don't typically see the full series being auctioned off, or even any set that's not an official release.

There are, however, still your usual round of websites claiming to offer quality DVD sets.  Whether they can be trusted, I don't know. But showsavailable ($130), greattvclassics ($125), 90210dvd ($250), and tvaddicts (dot tv, $150) are some of the names.  There used to be a site called 'raretvshowsondvd' or something similar, but I can't seem to find them anymore if they do still exist.

As for forums, I know televisionwithoutpity, tv (dot com), fanbolt, fanforum, 90210fans (dot proboards84), and bh90210heaven (dot proboards20) are all relatively prominent. When I see fan videos, freewebs (dot com, slash) brendadylan90210 is often cited for downloaded clips, and I would expect most fans now engage in the forums on that site.

But you know what?  I think a google search for 'craigslist 90210 dvd' is really your best bet.  I just found several listings, and it seems that they end pretty quickly.

If you do find yourself buying copies, keep in mind that any DVD set with less than 55 discs (give or take) will have a compression rate that you might find unacceptably high.

And just in case you haven't heard, Season 2 will be released on May 1st!

Thanks for the question.  Hope this helps.

All the best,

Mel

Can Dylan solve quadratic equations? What makes up a "mega-burger"? If an answer exists, I probably know it. Whether your question is general, begging the context of all 10 seasons, or completely inane, feel free to drop me a line either way. I will provide episode reference numbers for each response and plan to have some fun with this. Trivia quizzes often need correction, and publications will get their plotlines/characters/relationships mixed up too. I accept dialogue/scene requests, but please limit your inquiry to 1-2 per question. I only know music from the original broadcasts/reruns, not the DVDs. Been a fan since 1990 and didn't miss a beat.

Experience

Well, I began watching "Beverly Hills, 90210" at the tender age of 9 and a half, during its original run. By 11, I was a huge fan; 13, obsessed; 14, growing bitter. I don't like S6 - S10 as much as Seasons 1 - 5. But, technically, I still watch all of them in some way. Do this for 20 years and you'll remember the darndest things.

Education/Credentials
I'd like to say I've earned a "degree" on the life and times of the original eight, with specific concentration on Seasons 1 thru 5, any Jack McKay drama, Dylan/Kelly together or apart, and the guest stars of 1992-1994. Season 4, I think, was the best and strikingly different from any other. My only weakness might be later-season 'stand-in' characters like Matt and Noah, and the ever-changing ownerships of The AfterDark.
