Bible Studies/death as wages of sin
Expert: Brenda Martin - 1/2/2008
QuestionHello and thankyou for taking my question. I am well aware that the bible states that the wages of sin is death and that without no blood shed there is no propriation. What I dont know is WHY that is the case. I am asking not for a personal opinion, but rather biblical text you might know that tells us WHY there must be blood shed and WHY the wages of sin are death. Again, I am not looking for personal opinions, but rather biblical test supporting the answer to this question. Thankyou very much.
Answer"BIBLICAL TEXTS THAT TELLS US WHY THERE MUST BE BLOOD SHED"
God specially sanctified the blood of animal creatures by having their blood applied to his altar in atonement for the sins of ancient Israel. Likewise, God’s acceptance of the blood shed sacrificially by his Son as a perfect man, gives a special sanctity to human blood, in addition to the fact that the life of mankind lies in its blood. (Lev. 17:11, 12, 14)
God requires as a sacrifice in atonement for sin that which represents life, namely, the blood. “Unless blood is poured out no forgiveness takes place.”—Heb. 9:22.
The new covenant is made operative by the shed blood (the sacrifice of the human life) of Jesus Christ, the value of which was presented to God after Jesus’ ascension to heaven. (Mt 26:28)
Because the creature’s life is so inseparably connected with and dependent on blood (shed blood standing for the life of the person or creature [Ge 4:10; 2Ki 9:26; Ps 9:12; Isa 26:21]), the Scriptures speak of the ne´phesh (soul) as being “in the blood.” (Ge 9:4; Le 17:11, 14; De 12:23)
The Creator chose to view blood as having an elevated significance, reserving it for one special use that could save many lives. It was to play a vital role in covering sins (atonement). So under the Law, the only God-authorized use of blood was on the altar to make atonement for the lives of the Israelites, who were seeking God’s forgiveness.
AND WHY THE WAGES OF SIN ARE DEATH.
What is the cause of death? Only the Bible can give us a reasonable answer. The apostle Paul states: “The wages sin pays is death.” Death is not merely a natural fruit of sin, but its just punishment, an expression of divine justice.
It is sin’s wage. What is sin? The Bible answers: “All unrighteousness is sin.” Sin is the transgression of God’s law, the missing of the mark of perfection. The first record of sin is found in Genesis, when Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit. Their willful disobedience was sin, and the wages of sin is death. Adam and Eve both died as a result of sin.—Rom. 6:23; 1 John 5:17; Gen. 2:16, 17; 3:17-19.
God told the first human pair they would live forever if they remained obedient, they were also told however what the consequences would be if they disobeyed—
“In the day you eat from the tree you will positively die” they sinned & ate & suffered the consequences of their actions. Not only that but they passed on their sinful state to their offspring.
The offspring of Adam, being conceived in sin, were born sinners. They had no choice but to reap sin’s wage. Therefore the Scriptures state: “Who can produce someone clean out of someone unclean? There is not one.” “Through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned.”—Job 14:4; Rom. 5:12.
“By the trespass of the one man death ruled as king through that one . . . For the wages sin pays is death.” (Rom. 5:17; 6:23)
If your not clear on my answer let me know.
All the best
