Question
Hello and thankyou for taking my question. I am well aware that the bible states that the wages of sin is death and that without no blood shed there is no propriation. What I dont know is WHY that is the case. I am asking not for a personal opinion, but rather biblical text you might know that tells us WHY there must be blood shed and WHY the wages of sin are death. Again, I am not looking for personal opinions, but rather biblical test supporting the answer to this question. Thankyou very much.

Answer
Hi Pete,

You asked why blood is required for propitiation and why the penalty of sin is death.

God is omnipresent (Psa. 139:3, 5, 7-10, Jer. 23:23-24, 1King. 8:27, Isa. 57:15, 66:1). (All scriptures are KJV)

God will not dwell with evil (Psa. 5:4, Ex. 33:1-7, Mat. 13:36-43, 1Cor. 6:9-10, Gal. 5:19-21, Eph. 5:3-5, Rev. 21:8).

Since God inhabits all of Creation and refuses to dwell with evil then those people who, in spite of all of God’s efforts, are unrepentant, must eventually cease to exist.

Job 36:6 “He preserves not the life of the wicked: . . .”.

Rev. 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Blood is required because the penalty is death and the life is in the blood (Gen. 9:4, Lev. 17:11, 14, Deu. 12:23).

We started to write more on this subject, but you said you were not looking for opinions and any comments that aren’t quotes from scripture are often considered opinion.

It is possible to keep asking “why”-questions, such as children often do of their parents, until we are beyond what scripture tell us.  Such as, why is there a Father and a Son, but no Mother God?  Why, if God existed forever, did he choose this time to create an earth with people? What did God do forever before he created the Earth?

It is natural to want to understand and it is good in that it shows a desire to grow in knowledge.
You may have encountered non-believers who seize upon the lack of answers to some questions as evidence that God does not exist or is not really good.
God answers such challenges in Job 40:2, 6-8.

There is also the matter of Christ telling the disciples that the Holy Spirit would teach them (and us) “all things” (Jn. 14:26). But the Old Testament books had all been written from  400 to 1,400 years earlier and the New Testament books would be completed by the end of the first century.  If spiritual knowledge comes only from the printed scriptures, what would the Holy Spirit teach?  Why doesn’t everyone who reads the Bible understand it the same way?
Just something to think about.

We hope that this will be of some help to you.
Sincerely,
Mel and Guyna

Expertise

Anyone can read the Bible but sometimes it helps to have someone assist with the understanding (Acts 8:26-40). Truth comes from God through his holy spirit of truth (Jn. 16:13, 1Cor. 2:12), which is available to anyone who believes, repents and seeks God fervently and wholeheartedly, with humility, faith and persistence (Mat. 7:7, Deu. 4:29, Isa. 66:2, Jas. 4:1-10, Phil. 2:12). Truth is not limited to, or by, man’s religious organizations, church traditions, popular beliefs or personal opinions (Jn. 8:32, 14:6). We will try to help anyone who is trying to understand scripture or Christian living. [Please do not submit homework questions as they will be rejected.]

Experience

Organizations
Organizations are of men, not God. While God may use some of them to facilitate his plan, organizations train their people to follow, not to lead. God was able to create the whole Creation, as we see it, in only six days, because he did not use a committee. Ten years after 9/11, the only thing approved for construction there was a mosque.
