Question
This verse states that Jesus is the one mediator between God and man.  I have often heard that the Catholic Church considers Mary a mediator (mediatrix).  Is this a contradiction of scripture?

Answer
You are clearly correct. It puzzles me how this can be misunderstood when God the Father and Jesus BOTH tell us to go to them only. Jesus tells us throughout the New Testament to "ask of Me" and no where can it be interpreted that we should ask of Mary! What blasphemy! This is not only a contradiction of Scripture, but as I briefly noted a similar question, it is considered an abomination to consult the dead (e.g. read Deuteronomy 18:10-13 "let no one be found...who consults the dead" and Isaiah 8:19 which reads "When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their GOD? WHY CONSULT THE DEAD on behalf of the living? To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn." [Emphasis mine] Perhaps the best example of this being an abomination is the story of Saul who wanted to ask Samuel (who was dead like Mary) a question. Saul was killed the next day.) Praying or consulting Mary of any other dead person is also a contradiction of the purpose of the Holy Spirit whose purpose is "teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you" (John 14:26). Unfortunately the Catholic church has a lot of unscriptural beliefs. I grew up Catholic and even became a leader in the Catholic church, until I realized the blatant contradictions and became a Christian.

I hope this helps and thanks for the excellent question!
