Question
QUESTION: Hello Marilyn,

Hope all has been well for you this early year. My question is about this KMT, I know that it has to with Egypt or something of it, but what relevence does it have pertianing to the Bible, there are some out there that say that our church fathers used stories from the KMT to make up the Bible, any help here for em??

ANSWER: Hello Junior!

I've vaguely heard of this, can you give me more information?  KMT can mean Kennametal, an American corporation, or KMT, the modern journal of Egyptology, or whatever it's called, or kinetic molecular theory, or the original name for Egypt.

Great to hear from you,

Marilyn

Answer
Hello Junior;

Admittedly, I'm weaker on this topic than I've been on others you've asked about.  We know from the Bible that Jacob and his family were living in the Holy Land during the time Egypt was in its glory days.  We also know that Abraham and Sarah made a couple (maybe only one, I forget) forays into Egypt fleeing famine.  We know that Egypt was a really old culture.  But the God-Fearers, such as Abraham and whoever were the ancestors of Melchizedek and the ancestors of Moses' in-laws, were also around.  They didn't write anything down, but they passed their stories down verbally.

Today, people might question whether or not anything reliable can be passed down verbally.  That's because the persons questioning don't believe they, themselves, could memorize that much stuff accurately--that belief has little to do with whether it's possible or not.  About the only people who do memorization today are actors.  And maybe a few Navajo singers.  A Navajo singer, or medicine man, must memorize the equivalent of the New Testament accurately and in conjunction with creating a precise sand painting.  A seasoned singer knows only one or two songs because each one contains so much material, but he knows those two perfectly--otherwise his teacher would not certify him to conduct a sing.  I'm talking about Navajo singers to make a point.

God-Fearers passed down their stories around campfires and over dinner tables and while herding the sheep etc. etc.  From the picture we get in the Bible, they didn't bump into Egypt much except when famine struck.  Debunkers want to know if God-Fearers got the Bible from Egypt--how come nobody asks if Egypt got their material from the God-Fearers?  Kind of shows who's questioning whose veracity doesn't it.

It's true Moses, who wrote the first five books of the Old Testament, was trained in the Egyptian royal court, but he was also sent home to his mother to be nursed.  Typically, in those days it wasn't uncommon for a mother to nurse a child until he was 7 years old.  You can be sure that a woman who had the nerve to put her child in God's Hand in a basket in a river had the nerve to teach him the old stories about creation and the tower of Babel and Abraham.

It's obvious that the Egyptians were pretty smart, but it's not obvious that the Bible originated with them--in fact, it's unlikely.  God is powerful enough to keep His Word as He wants it kept whether it be handed down verbally or translated from different languages.

Persons who don't want to believe God can keep His Word will believe He can't and persons who do believe God can keep His Word will believe He has.  And the two sets will argue until the Second Coming.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Glad you're still out there scraping,

Marilyn

Expertise

I can answer questions on issues about evolution and creationism. I can answer questions on how the Bible applies to every day life and the future of mankind. I have some understanding of spiritual warfare. If I don`t know the answer to your question, I`m not going to try and pretend that I do. But every answer a questioner receives from any person, expert here or anywhere else, must be weighed against what the Bible says and laid before God in prayer. Spiritual issues are too important to just accept what a person tells you without confirmation from the Bible and the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who gives a person wisdom. He will give peace regarding how to handle any issue or teaching if it is correct.

Experience

I am a life long student of the Bible and have tested its teachings under fire and found them solid.

Education/Credentials
I have a Bachelor's degree in English and Art Education. I am a mother, and I think that is an educational qualification of itself.
