Bible Studies/God and Suffering
Expert: Mike Muya - 5/1/2008
QuestionI am a young adult who has sought to pursue a personal relationship with God. Though I don't know extensively about Christine Doctrine, I was hoping your expertise could help me get some clarity on a personal problem: I have a very fortunate life. Though I don't feel this way all the time, of course, I feel fairly blessed; things that I really have wanted in life have seem to come with patience and effort and of course prayer. At the same time, however, I recognize that many other people suffer who are better human beings than I and pray just as hard; some people seem to try their whole lives for one thing and never get it. I can't help but feel that I don't deserve the good fortune I've had, not because I have done anything wrong, but just in comparison to others who are just as "good" as I but have not had the same "luck." I know the saying, "God has a plan," but at the same time I want to try to understand that purpose, because for some reason when things start going well for me, it feels bitter sweet as if somehow I think that God is going to take it away from me to teach me a lesson through suffering. At the risk of sounding arrogant, sometimes I feel like God shows me special favor, but just like any child who would see their father spoil them at the expense of his brothers, I feel skeptical about what I've been given; and knowing that God would not make this kind of mistake, I feel almost paranoid when I have success, as if God is setting me up to teach me something through suffering. I don't want to think of God as being this malice either. So I guess, despite the long-windedness, my question is simple: How should I understand God's intention if I receive repeated good fortune and I see others equally deserving struggle? Thanks in advance!
AnswerHi there,
Appologies for not repling on time.
Good question, first of all thank God for your stable and good life
that you are experiencing,in the Bible it talks about two builders one
wise and the other foolish, and am sure you know the implication of
these two fellows, likewise.the young rich ruler who aked Jesus what he
should do,the Lord told him to go sell his possesions and follow
Jesus.....As a christian i hope you are fascilitating Gods work
because what are you going to do with all the wealth when Jesus comes
again ?may be the lord is putting a baden in your heart to help the
less privillaged.when God blesses you and to know that it came from
the Lord then your faith increases and you relly on Him even
more, allot of what is around us,wealth sickness, struggles, famine etc
is really to give us perspective in the Lord.
