John says that Jesus broke the sabbath (John 5:18). Paul says that Jesus never sinned (Hebrews 4:15). How do I reconcile these two statements?
God Bless You,
Mike
Answer Since Jesus is divine [John 1:1 and 20:28 especially], He did not sin -- God does not sin.
So, we need to look at John 5:18 not only in view of Heb 4:15 but also all the verses of John. In chapter 5, it is the Jewish leaders who accuse Jesus of breaking the Sabbath and of claiming to be God. The accusation is unfounded on both issues in light of the teaching of John's gospel.
As God, Jesus was not held to the prescriptions of the Sabbath observance. Matthew [5:21-48] also makes it clear that Jesus took authority to change some presciptions of the Mosaic Law.
Hopefully, my thoughts will be of help in your reconciling the statements of your concern.
Best wishes, Mike.
