Question
Hi Brian, thanks for being available.  Can you explain Luke 9:27?  I'm sure it can't be taken literally.

Thanks & have a blessed day.

Answer
Hi Greg,

Luke 9:27:   "But I say to you truthfully, there are some of those standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God."

The verses which follow describe how Peter, James, and John, three men who were "standing here" when Jesus made his remark, went to the Mount of Transfiguration and saw Jesus in his glory, accompanied by Moses and Elijah. They also heard the voice of God.

This event is understood to be to what Jesus was referring when he said that some of those would not taste death  before seeing the kingdom of God.

When Jesus returns, there will be the resurrected righteous and the translated living. These two groups were represented by Moses and Elijah on the Mount. And Christ will return in all his glory.

Embracing this view solves any problem connected to this scene and the remarks of Jesus.

Take care.
