Question
What's the definition of the word sojourn/sojourner and what's its significance at the turn of the 20th century.

Answer
A sojourner is a resident alien -- someone who lives in a place where he or she is not a citizen.  In the New Testament the Christian is described as a sojourner whose proper country is not in this world but one of promise.  (e.g. Hebrews 11:8-16)  This remains true in any century.  Beware of political movements which try to establish a "Christian" homeland here in this world by using worldly politics.
