Question
Can you give me a basis of the color of saphire blue in the bible?
thanks so much!  God bless! diane

Answer
Hi Diane,

I'm not clear about your question.
Blue as a color in the Bible typically denotes holiness, solace and purity and blue stones were hence emblems of this quality.

It is believed by some people that "Sapir" at Exodus 28:18 equates with "sapphire" and was the stone on the Ephod of the Hebrew tribe of Issachar but I see neither the support nor the relevance for it.

Ex 28:18 And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond.

Biblical "Sapphires" were most likely lapis lazuli from what I understand, however I've never delved into this question before.

Job 28:6: The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold.

SoS 5:14 His hands are as gold rings set with the beryl: his belly is as bright ivory overlaid with sapphires.

Isa 54:11 O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.

Hope this helps,
