Hello Pastor Don,

This may not be considered 'Bible Study', but maybe you can help out. For some time now I have felt that God is leading me to become an Evangelist. I am praying on this everyday.

Question: How does one prepare and start to become an Evangelist?

Hi Matt,

Thank you for this great question.  Here are several things you should do in order to follow this calling:

1.  Tell your pastor!  He is the one directly in charge of your spiritual development.  He should know what you feel God is doing in your heart.

Hebrews 13:7,17
7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.  

17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

2.  Plug into the ministries of your local church.  It is the leadership of your local church that will recognize and confirm the call of God in your life.  As they see God's hand of calling and enablement as you serve in the local church, God will promote you to more public ministries.

Acts 13:1-4


Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.  2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. 3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
4 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

3.  Get to a good Bible college that your pastor chooses.  An evangelist must be well prepared to defend the truth of the Bible.

2 Timothy 2:15
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
