Question
Hi!

I'm trying to work on a Bible study where God (or somebody ordered by God) destroys something and why He destroys it.  I'm stuck trying to figure it out and I was wondering if you can help me.  Thanks.

All the information I can get is very much appreciated.
God bless you!

Answer
Hi Daniel,

Here are some instances in which God destroyed something, along with the passages that explain why. This may serve as a starting point for your study:

God destroyed the earth with a flood, sparing only Noah and his family (Genesis 6:1-8).

God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19).

God destroyed property and the firstborn child of many Egyptians when delivering Israel from Egyptian bondage (Exodus 1-12).

God destroyed many of the Canaanites who refused to yield the Promised Land to the Israelites (Joshua 1-12).

God destroyed the empires of Assyria and Babylon, as well as other nations, for their rebellion against God and mistreatment of the Jews (I&II Kings, I&II Chronicles, Isaiah, Jeremiah).

God destroyed Haman when he plotted to destroy the Jews (Esther).

God will destroy the existing heavens and earth to create a new heaven and earth (II Peter 3:10, Revelation 21-22).

My suggestion is to choose one of these examples and go from there. If you need further help, write back to me, and I will be happy to assist you.

Expertise

I have studied the Bible and Bible-related topics since the time I was very young. My education includes a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Bible, and a Master of Divinity degree. I enjoy delving into deep theological issues and always enjoy a healthy debate. But more importantly, I like working with people and helping them to find the answers that they are looking for. And I am convinced that these answers are available in the Bible.

Experience

By the grace and mercy of God, I have been saved, born again, adopted into the family of God. God has given me a love for the Bible, and for Bible-related subjects. In addition, He has blessed me with ongoing training in the Scriptures, from my youth on up. The more I learn about God through His Word, the more I want to share!
