I am in a Bible study and was wondering if there is any meaning to the directions east vs. west?  This is in regards to Ischmael and his decendants settling to the east of his brothers.

Dear Sarah,
There is meaning in everything in the Bible, some are not quite as clear as others. On this issue I think I can shed some light from scripture for you.
The sun, a type of Christ, moves east to west, the world moves west to east. To move west to east is to move away from God.
Acts 16:6 KJV  Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were FORBIDDEN OF THE HOLY GHOST TO PREACH THE WORD IN ASIA,
In this verse God forbids Paul to take the gospel west to east. In the west we have the "Left Coast" California from whence it is typified that the liberal anti-God movement flows west to east.
