About Tom Smith
Expertise
I am able to answer a wide range of questions regarding orthodox Christian theology as well as those of many of the more common cults and religious movements (inside and outside of the church). This includes Protestantism, Charismatic movement, New Apostolic Reformation, Strategic Prayer/Spiritual Warfare, Catholicism, Mormonism, Jehovah Witnesses, Calvinism, Reformed Church, Baptist Church, Pentecostalism, and Oneness Pentecostalism. I have been a member of or have attended many of the above. I have studied the beliefs and literature of the remaining through a variety of means and have a significant library/resource of information on these movements.

Experience
I have been saved through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, and believe in the truth of God's Holy word in the Bible as the inerrant and infallible word of God. I have been a believer for over 37 years. Other qualifications include:

- Former member of the counil of a local church
- Speaker at the "Last Days Bible Conference" (http://ldbc.ca) and other functions.
- Researcher into religious movements and cults (maintain website with information on some of these movements and cults) (http://Discern.ca)
- Member of the Apologetics Coordination Team (http://op.50megs.com/act/)

I hold to the view that the Bible is inerrant and infallible, and I belief that the Bible is our sole authority on matters of faith and doctrine (Sola Scripture, Sola Fide).

Bible Studies - Genesis3:21

Expert: Tom Smith - 11/4/2009

Question
Should I deduce that the ramifications of this verse is  the salvation of man, by the covering given by God (the coats of skins which are symbolic of the righteousness of Christ Jesus), who was strong.  This shows God's care for our first parents, whom God does correct; but does not disinherit them despite their sin. He still provides for them?

Answer
Let's look at the verse:

Gen 3:21
21 Also for Adam and his wife the LORD God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.
NKJV

Since the context does not specifically suggest that, I would be cautious about suggesting that we can state categorically that this is the meaning of that verse. Nonetheless, we can speculate that there is a symbolic indication by that act, and by the fact that immediately after the first sin, the first blood was shed in response to that sin, to provide a covering. There is often a symbolic message in how God responded to situations like this in the OT, and that could very well be the case, and indeed would appear to be the intent.
