QuestionHello and thankyou for taking my question. I would like to know if the believer in Christ has some of his righteousness imparted to him = do we inherit Christ's righteousness. And if so, are there any verses you cant point out in particular
AnswerDear Pete,
We are imputed righteousness on the basis of our faith in Christ Jesus. The references are too many to list here, but here are a few. Read the book of Romans.
Romans 3:21-22 KJV But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; (22) Even THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD WHICH IS BY FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST UNTO ALL AND UPON ALL THEM THAT BELIEVE: for there is no difference:
Romans 4:3 KJV For what saith the scripture? Abraham BELIEVED GOD, and IT WAS COUNTED UNTO HIM FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Romans 4:5-8 KJV But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, HIS FAITH IS COUNTED FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS. (6) Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom GOD IMPUTETH RIGHTEOUSNESS without works, (7) Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. (8) Blessed is the man to whom THE LORD WILL NOT IMPUTE SIN.
Romans 4:11 KJV And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal OF THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE FAITH WHICH HE HAD yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:
Romans 4:13 KJV For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF FAITH.
Romans 4:20-25 KJV He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but WAS STRONG IN FAITH, giving glory to God; (21) And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. (22) And therefore IT WAS IMPUTED TO HIM FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS. (23) Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; (24) But for us also, TO WHOM IT SHALL BE IMPUTED, IF WE BELIEVE on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; (25) Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
Romans 5:17 KJV For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the GIFT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
Romans 10:4 KJV For Christ is the end of the law FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS to every one that believeth.
Romans 10:10 KJV For with the heart man BELIEVETH UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
I hope this helps.
