How many years was there between Malachi to Matthew and why was this time called the "Silent Years"?
Hi Dorothy,
Malachi was written in the 5th century BCE (BC) while Matthew was written towards the end of the first century CE (AD) (between 50 and 90 CE). Paul's letters were written earlier that the Gospels, beginning around the late 40's and 50's CE.
Some people call this period the "Silent Years" because no biblical works were produced (implying, they wrongly assume, that God was silent during these years). Much however happened during these years such as the Maccabees rebellion of 166-129 BCE etc.
