Question
Dear Mr. Petty:

Is there a significance to the dragon of Rev. 12:3 being the color red?

Thanks,
Mel

Answer
Dear Mel,

Thanks for your question about the color red on the dragon. As is clear from verse 9, the dragon represents Satan (and later in the book we see that it represents his emissaries, those people who work for him).

Going to Revelation 17:3, 4, we find a scarlet beast covered with blasphemes, and sitting on it is a woman clothed is purple and scarlet, holding a cup of wine (red) full of abominations, and she's drunk with the blood (red) of the saints.

Perhaps we can conclude that the color red is closely connected with evil.

Mel, it's vitally important that we accept Jesus as our Savior so that we will not be connected with evil, and thus with Satan--the red dragon. Always stay close to Jesus and then you'll always be ready for Him to come.
