Question
Hi, Could you tell me who God is talking to in genesis 26: "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness."
He is talking as though there are others with him. This has always confused me. If God is the only God and this is before creation than who is with him. I have had people tell me that it is the trinity. This confuses me more because how can Jesus be with him when he has not yet been born? I know he is God and therefore nothing is beyond his ability but it is confusing. Thanks, Cindy

Answer
The Son of God, who existed from all eternity, became man as Jesus --check John, chapter 1.
However, the explicit Trinity belongs to the revelation of the New Testament, not Genesis Chapter 1.
Many scholars see the plural as reflecting the ancient idea of God being surrounded by other heavenly beings.  Here, God makes the decision, which emphasizes the unique place of humanity in the  creation.  You could also read: Gen 11:3,7, Dt 32:8-9, Isa 6: and 40:1-11.
I hope that these thoughts help, Cindy.  If you wish more, feel free to write again.
Best wishes.
