Question
McClintock and Strong’s Cyclopædia (1882, Volume III, page 773, column 2 says: "In constructing their genealogical tables, it is well known that the Jews reckoned wholly by males".
Is there any proove that Jews reckoned wholly by males In constructing their genealogical tables?

Answer
The personal genealogies of the bible usually give the father and son, etc.  However, some do include the wives of some persons, see Mt 1:5,6, 16; Gen 12:29.
To prove the technique, one needs to examine all the personal genealogies.  My quick check found a few women mentioned in connection with their spouses.
So, I personally would not use the word "wholly".  Possibly "usually" would be my choice of an adverb.
Hope these thoughts are of help, Macne.  If you wish more, please feel free to write again.
Best wishes.
