Question
Under what or who's quideance was the twelve desciple elected after Judas took his life? Why stop at twelve? Who set the teachings, conditions or instructions? I have a couple of interesting questions for a person of your credentials and faiths of present and perhaps past too yet the answer to these question would be appreciated. Ave

Answer
The account in Acts 1:15-26 speaks of Peter taking the lead to select a replacement for Judas.   The idea of replacement stems from Jesus' words recorded in Lk 20:29-30.
From the earliest traditions before the time of David, the tribes of Israel were numbered as 12. See, for example, Numbers 1:1-42.
Your questions are welcome, Gesus.
Best wishes.
