Question"God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind." - Numbers 23:19
How can Jesus be God when the verse above stated that God is not a man not the Son of Man?
Thank
AnswerDear Ryan,
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Numbers 23:19 KJV
Interesting question; I have to admit that it is the first time I have been asked such. The answer, however, is not of such difficulty that the two of us cannot reason it out from God's word. Naturally, God is not a man nor is he the son of anything. The context has to do with man as a liar and in need of repenting of his boasting and inability to fulfill what he says.
Although God was manifested in the flesh;
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was MANIFEST IN THE FLESH, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. 1 Timothy 3:16 KJV
That does not make him a man. God was in Christ;
To wit, that GOD WAS IN CHRIST, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:19 KJV
but Christ was that body of flesh God put himself into, like a suite of cloths.
For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but A BODY HAST THOU PREPARED ME: Hebrews 10:4-5 KJV
But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, MADE OF A WOMAN, made under the law, Galatians 4:4 KJV
And, even though we cannot understand it, we must take into account the Trinity. God the Father, God the Holy Spirit, God the Word. For it was the Word that was made flesh.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD...And tHE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:1 & 14 KJV
Therefore, we have God manifesting himself as his own son in the form of a man, a body made of a woman, which is the Son of God and Son of man.
I hope this helps.
