Question
We read the people are possessed by demons but never by angles. I thought demons were fallen angles and if the demons can posses people why can't those that didn't fall? Does it have anything to do with the natures of fallen creatures ie fallen men, fallen angles? Or perhaps are demons not fallen angles but another being altogether? Maybe elect Holy angles are not compatible with sinful fallen men, so no union can take place, where when both are fallen a union can take place. Go figure, thank you

Answer
David,

There is a significant difference in how God acts towards man and how Satan acts. John 3:16 tells us how God acts - God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son that whoever believes on Him might be saved. Elsewhere we are told that those who received Christ as Saviour receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit - the Holy Spirit indwells to help us and guide us, not control us. Holy Angels are not going to act in a manner which is not consistent with God's word or they will be in sin, therefore the Holy Angels do not attempt to take over control of us. Further, since it is the role of the Holy Spirit, not the angels to indwell those who are saved, if an angel were to try to indwell us, that angel would be trying to take God's place and once again, would not be a Holy angel since they would be in sin.

Demonic possession also occurs when a person invites a demon into but the demon then becomes the controller of the person, not a helper. That is why it is called demon possession - the demon assumes ownership and control, something that a Holy Angel would not do because to do so would be disobedient to God, and they would cease to be Holy.

I hope that they helps.

Expertise

I am able to answer a wide range of questions regarding orthodox Christian theology as well as those of many of the more common cults and religious movements (inside and outside of the church). This includes Protestantism, Charismatic movement, New Apostolic Reformation, Strategic Prayer/Spiritual Warfare, Catholicism, Mormonism, Jehovah Witnesses, Calvinism, Reformed Church, Baptist Church, Pentecostalism, and Oneness Pentecostalism. I have been a member of or have attended many of the above. I have studied the beliefs and literature of the remaining through a variety of means, including in most cases interacting with members and/or leaders in these organizations. I also maintain a significant library/resource of information on these movements and organizations.

Experience

I have been a lifelong student of the Bible. In addition, I have been saved through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, and believe in the truth of God's Holy word in the Bible as the inerrant and infallible word of God. I have been a believer for over 43 years. Other qualifications include:

- Former member of the counril of a local church
- Speaker at the "Last Days Bible Conference" and other functions.
- Researcher into religious movements and cults (maintain website with information on some of these movements and cults)
- Member of the Apologetics Coordination Team

I hold to the view that the Bible is inerrant and infallible, and I belief that the Bible is our sole authority on matters of faith and doctrine (Sola Scripture, Sola Fide).
