Questionis smoking a sin
AnswerDear Mary,
In New Testament and the kingdom of God through Jesus Christ all sin is forgiven. However there are things that bring us into the flesh life and things that enable us to walk with God properly. We are to walk in the spirit. Be led by the Spirit and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. We do this is order to have communications with the Lord and to be led by Him.
The question of sin does not arise because Christ died for our sins. So we are forgiven of sin, but the lusts of the flesh and ungodly habits take their toll on our faith life.
Faith is eaten away when bad habits bring us into the flesh.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:14
Our object as followers of Christ is to be led by the Spirit. Not to fulfill the lusts of the flesh. So then we are led by the spirit when we fulfill the things of the spirit and the same with the flesh.
Romans 13:14
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
We have a new spirit a new order, to follow Christ. (Could you see Jesus smoking)?
Ephesians 4:22
that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,
So this is our fight in following the living Christ. Its not a matter of sin but a matter of spirit order. Which do we follow. The lusts of the flesh or the Spirit of God. One fights against the other.
"Romans 7:21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin."
So whether we sin or not sin is not the question. The question is in the following of Christ. Which brings us closer to Him and which takes us away from Him.? This is the question. The reality answers itself.
God bless
