Question
Dean, I am interested in learning Biblical Greek at home. I want to read the new testament in its original language.  Could you recommend an at-home course that I can study from?

Thanx,  In Christ,

Angela

Answer
Angela,

It has been a long time since I took the courses in Koine Greek and so I have not kept up on the home courses now being offered.

But, I believe that I recently received an email advertisement for learning Greek from Biblesoft.com.  This is a very reliable company whose Bible study products I have been using since the 1980s and have not been disappointed with any of the upgrades. I'm sorry that I have no basis for recommending any other company.

All of the Biblesoft basic programs now use the Greek alphabet as stand alone Bible versions and interlinears along with transliterated versions of the new testament.  The programs include a number of Lexicons (Strong's and Thayers are the best) through which you can look up the pronounciation as well as the various meanings of each word shown in the Greek interlinear as you are reading the Bible.

However, if you can find a basic course it will help you greatly in understanding the Bible because, for instance, just a change in the "case" of a word changes the meaning of the sentence.

If  you can find a good course in Biblical (Koine) Greek, you will not regret the time and effort that you put into reading the original language of the new testament.

May God bless you in your efforts,

Dean

Expertise

I can answer questions concerning the translating of specific words and translations of the New Testament. I can give the etemology of Greek words, primarily in the Koine Greek, but also in Classical Greek. I can also give explanations of much of the Bible having read it many times and written many Bible studies.

Experience

I studied Greek in earning my BA at a university and my DTh. and MDiv. at an accredited seminary. I was a diviity student at both the university and seminary, spending most of those eight years studying the Bible.
